Experimental art proposal
1. THEORETICAL BACKGROUND:
Art is an instrument of discovery and knowledge of the world, referring to those who come into contact with it, not to its most direct content, properly speaking, “but to the way in which it is transmitted” (process). It is an attempt to denounce, in the form of competitive measurements created in a space and all the gestures resulting from it, the atmosphere of competition and tension under which we live in historical time, in which systems seek to frame people in order to classify them. them quantitatively or distinguish them according to fixed categories of behavior. What is important and desirable, more than the activities that people carry out during their presence and participation within the scope of the exhibition, is the verification and experience of responses at the level of a public that is quite varied in terms of culture and age group.
2. PROPOSAL
The aim is to create an environment where people are invited or induced to:
a) Physical actions – Execution of measures (on themselves) around physical capabilities and attributes, individual resources and abilities, etc.;
b) Cognitive actions – Knowledge of personal parameters (important or not); record of observed data in individual and collective files allowing their comparison;
c) Emotional attitudes – Involvement with a competitive climate (or resistance, or indifference) towards themselves and others; search for identification with static models pre-established by a typology and characterology (pseudo-scientific and obsolete) still in force at certain levels of mass media information;
d) Reflexive action – Observation by analogy of the competitive climate of the contemporary world, in disguised forms of information, and the denunciation of the same as critical reference data.
3. FORMALIZATION OF THE PROPOSAL
a) Assembly of semi-empirical devices (created by the proponent) for measuring personal data:
For example:
1. Biometric data
1.1. For typological classification:
Face shape;
Body proportions, etc.
1.2. For assessment of physical abilities
Manual strength;
Resistance to cold and heat;
Breathing capacity;
Reaction to light;
Blood type;
Type of skin and hair, etc.
b) Audiovisual – The Book of Records;
c) Xerographed or photographic booklets and albums:
– Classification of human figures from famous paintings;
– Measurement proposals “to do at home”;
– Collection of material from old scientific books and current magazines and newspapers on tests, classifications, typology, differential characters, valuations, etc.
